Peep Nap (2 player card game)

Objective: The objective of the card game Peep Nap is to score points by correctly guessing the number of tricks you will win in each round.

Adaptation for 2 Players: Peep Nap is typically played with more than 2 players, but it can be adapted for 2 players by adjusting the rules and the scoring system.

Setup:

  1. Use a standard 52-card deck.
  2. Determine the dealer for the first hand. This can be done by any agreed-upon method, such as drawing cards or the player with the highest card.
  3. Shuffle the deck and deal 13 cards to each player, one at a time.

Scoring: In Peep Nap, players earn points based on their ability to predict the number of tricks they will win. The following scoring system is adapted for 2 players:

  • Correct Prediction: If a player correctly predicts the number of tricks they will win, they score 10 points plus the number of tricks won.
  • Incorrect Prediction: If a player fails to predict the exact number of tricks they win, they lose 10 points for each trick they won.
  • Nap Bonus: If a player predicts and wins all 13 tricks, they score a Nap bonus of 100 points.

Gameplay:

  1. Predictions:
    • Before each hand, players must secretly predict the number of tricks they believe they will win.
    • Players write down their predictions and keep them hidden until the end of the hand.
  2. Trick-Taking:
    • The player to the dealer’s left leads the first trick by playing any card from their hand.
    • The other player must follow suit if possible. If not, they may play any card.
    • The player who plays the highest card of the suit led wins the trick and leads the next trick.
    • Players continue taking tricks until all 13 tricks have been played.
  3. Scoring:
    • After all tricks have been played, players reveal their predictions.
    • Compare each player’s prediction to the actual number of tricks they won.
    • Score points according to the scoring system outlined above.
  4. Rotation and Dealing:
    • After scoring, rotate the dealer position clockwise, and begin the next hand.
    • Continue playing hands until a predetermined winning score is reached, such as 500 points.

Differentiating Turns:

  • Player 1’s Turn: Player 1 starts as the dealer and leads the first trick. They also make their prediction before the hand begins.
  • Player 2’s Turn: After Player 1 completes their turn as the dealer, it becomes Player 2’s turn to lead tricks and make predictions.

Summary: Peep Nap is an intriguing 2 player card game where players must accurately predict the number of tricks they will win in each hand to earn points. By adapting the rules for 2 players, the game remains challenging and competitive, offering opportunities for strategic play and psychological warfare. Whether aiming for a perfect prediction or trying to outsmart their opponent, players will enjoy the dynamic gameplay and scoring system of Peep Nap in a 2 player setting.
