Enfrentar (2 player card game)

Objective: The objective of “Enfrentar” is to be the first player to reach a predetermined score by winning rounds.

Adaptation for 2 Players: In the 2 player version of “Enfrentar,” the game is played similarly to the standard version, but with slight modifications to accommodate only two players.

Scoring: In “Enfrentar,” scoring is based on the number of tricks won by each player. The player who wins the most tricks in a round earns points equal to the number of tricks they won. The first player to reach the predetermined score, usually 100 points, wins the game.

Setup:

1. Use a standard 52-card deck.
2. Determine the starting player. This can be done by any agreed-upon method, such as flipping a coin or drawing cards from the shuffled deck.
3. Shuffle the deck and deal the entire deck evenly between the two players, so each player receives 26 cards.

Gameplay:

1. The starting player leads the first trick by playing any card from their hand.
2. The other player must play a card of the same suit if possible. If they don’t have a card of the same suit, they can play any card.
3. The player who played the highest-ranked card of the suit led wins the trick and leads the next trick.
4. Play continues until all cards have been played.
5. After all cards have been played, count the number of tricks won by each player.
6. The player who won the most tricks scores points equal to the number of tricks they won. If both players won an equal number of tricks, no points are scored for that round.
7. Shuffle the cards and deal a new hand to start the next round.
8. The game continues until one player reaches the predetermined winning score, typically 100 points.

Differentiation between Turns:

• Player 1’s Turn: Player 1 starts the game and leads the first trick. They continue to lead tricks until the end of the round.
• Player 2’s Turn: After Player 1 leads the first trick, Player 2 follows with a card. Throughout the round, Player 2 only leads a trick if they win the previous trick.
