Dutch Blitz (2 player card game)

Objective: The goal of “Dutch Blitz” is to get rid of all the cards in your blitz pile as quickly as possible.

Setup:

  1. Separate the deck into four different colors: blue, green, red, and yellow. Each player should take one color deck.
  2. Shuffle each deck thoroughly and deal out 10 cards to each player. These cards form the players’ blitz piles.
  3. Place the remaining cards in the center to form the draw pile. Leave space for two discard piles—one for each player.

Gameplay:

  1. Players take turns simultaneously. Each turn consists of three phases: a. The player may play cards from their hand onto their own blitz pile and onto the common area, which is known as the middle row. The cards in the middle row must be played in ascending order, starting from 1 and continuing to 10, with the same color. b. The player may then draw cards from their draw pile to replenish their hand, trying to keep it at 10 cards. c. Lastly, the player may discard cards from their hand onto their own discard pile.

  2. Players can also play cards from their blitz pile to the common area (middle row) if it is in sequence with the cards there. They can also play cards from their blitz pile to their discard pile if they cannot play them anywhere else.

  3. Players can move cards between their blitz pile, hand, and discard pile freely.

Scoring: In “Dutch Blitz,” there is no formal scoring system for 2 players. The game is typically played for rounds, and the winner of each round is the first player to empty their blitz pile. Players can keep track of the number of rounds won to determine the overall winner.

Adaptation for 2 Players:

  1. In a 2-player game, each player plays with two decks of different colors instead of one. This provides more cards to work with and increases the challenge.
  2. Players can alternate turns, with one player taking their turn while the other player waits. Alternatively, players can take simultaneous turns, but this might require some coordination to avoid confusion.

Summary: In “Dutch Blitz,” players aim to empty their blitz pile as quickly as possible by playing cards in sequence onto the middle row and their own piles. Adapted for 2 players, the game becomes a competitive race to see who can clear their blitz pile first. There is no formal scoring system, and the game is typically played for rounds, with the winner of each round being the first player to empty their pile. Overall, “Dutch Blitz” is an exciting and fast-paced 2 player card game that can provide hours of entertainment.
