Devil's Grip (2 player card game)

Objective: Devil’s Grip is a solitaire card game where the goal is to move all cards to the foundation piles, building them up by suit from Ace to King. In this adaptation for 2 players, each player will play their own solitaire game simultaneously, competing to complete their foundation piles before their opponent.

Setup:

  1. Use a standard deck of 52 cards.
  2. Shuffle the deck and deal 26 cards face-down to each player, forming their individual draw piles.
  3. Each player then deals themselves 13 cards face-up, forming their individual tableau piles.
  4. Leave space for four foundation piles, where cards will be built up by suit from Ace to King.

Gameplay:

  1. Player 1’s Turn:

    • Player 1 begins by playing their own solitaire game, starting with the cards in their tableau piles.
    • They can move cards between tableau piles and build them down by alternating colors. For example, a black 10 can be placed on a red Jack.
    • A player can also move cards to the foundation piles if they are in sequence and of the same suit, starting with the Ace.
  2. Player 2’s Turn:

    • Player 2 follows the same rules as Player 1, playing their own solitaire game simultaneously.
    • They can move cards between tableau piles and build them down by alternating colors. They can also move cards to the foundation piles if they are in sequence and of the same suit.
  3. Drawing Cards:

    • If a player runs out of moves in their tableau piles, they can draw cards from their draw pile, one at a time, and play them onto the tableau or foundation piles if possible.
  4. Scoring:

    • Scoring in Devil’s Grip typically involves counting the number of cards remaining in the draw pile and subtracting it from a predetermined value, such as 100 or 200.
    • The player who finishes their foundation piles first may earn bonus points or win the round, depending on the agreed-upon rules.
  5. Winning the Game:

    • The game ends when one player successfully completes all four foundation piles or when both players are unable to make any more moves.
    • The player with the most points, or who completes their foundation piles first, wins the game.

Adaptation for 2 Players:

  • In the 2-player adaptation, each player plays their own solitaire game simultaneously, trying to complete their foundation piles before their opponent.
  • Players take turns independently, making moves in their tableau and foundation piles without interfering with each other’s game.
  • The game proceeds until one player successfully completes their foundation piles or until both players are unable to make any more moves.

Summary: Devil’s Grip has been adapted into a 2 player card game, allowing each player to enjoy their own solitaire challenge while competing against their opponent. Players strive to build up their foundation piles while managing their tableau and draw piles effectively. The player who completes their foundation piles first or earns the most points wins the game.
