Crazy Eights (2 player card game)

Objective: Crazy Eights is a shedding-type card game where players aim to be the first to get rid of all their cards by matching them with the top card of the discard pile.

Setup:

  1. Use a standard deck of 52 cards without jokers.
  2. Shuffle the deck thoroughly and deal 7 cards to each player.
  3. Place the remaining deck face-down to form the draw pile and flip the top card face-up next to it to start the discard pile.

Gameplay:

  1. Player 1’s Turn:

    • Player 1 starts the game by either playing a card that matches the rank or suit of the top card of the discard pile.
    • If Player 1 cannot play a matching card, they must draw from the draw pile until they draw a playable card.
    • Once Player 1 plays a card or draws a card, their turn ends, and it becomes Player 2’s turn.
  2. Player 2’s Turn:

    • Player 2 follows the same rules as Player 1, trying to match the rank or suit of the top card of the discard pile.
    • If Player 2 cannot play a matching card, they must draw from the draw pile until they draw a playable card.
    • Once Player 2 plays a card or draws a card, their turn ends, and it becomes Player 1’s turn again.
  3. Special Cards:

    • Eights are wild cards and can be played on any card. When an Eight is played, the player must declare the suit it represents.
    • If a player does not have a playable card after drawing from the draw pile, they pass their turn to the next player.
  4. Winning the Game:

    • The game continues until one player successfully gets rid of all their cards.
    • Once a player has no cards left, they win the game.

Scoring:

  • In Crazy Eights, there is typically no scoring system. The goal is simply to be the first player to empty their hand.

Adaptation for 2 Players:

  • In the adaptation for 2 players, Crazy Eights follows the standard rules of the game.
  • The game continues with players taking turns until one player wins by emptying their hand.

Summary: Crazy Eights has been adapted into a 2 player card game where players take turns playing matching cards or drawing from the deck. The goal is to be the first player to get rid of all their cards. It’s a fun and engaging game for two players, despite its original design for more players.
