Conquian (2 player card game)

Objective: Conquian is a rummy-style card game where the objective is to form sets and/or runs of cards and be the first to go out.

Setup:

1. Use a standard deck of 40 cards (remove cards 8-10 of each suit).
2. Shuffle the deck and deal 10 cards to each player.
3. Place the remaining cards face down to form the draw pile.

Gameplay:

1. Player 1’s Turn:

   • Player 1 starts by either drawing the top card from the draw pile or the discard pile.
   • If Player 1 draws from the discard pile, they must use that card to form a set or run immediately.
   • After forming a set or run or discarding, Player 1 ends their turn by discarding a card face up onto the discard pile.

2. Player 2’s Turn:

   • Player 2 follows the same process as Player 1, drawing and discarding cards.

3. Forming Sets and Runs:

   • Sets: Three or four cards of the same rank but different suits (e.g., 3 of hearts, 3 of diamonds, 3 of clubs).
   • Runs: Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., 4, 5, 6 of hearts).
   • Players can lay down sets or runs during their turn if they meet the requirements.

4. Going Out:

   • To go out, a player must have all their cards in sets or runs, leaving no cards in hand.
   • Once a player goes out, the round ends, and scoring occurs.

Scoring:

• At the end of each round, players score points based on the value of the cards left in their opponent’s hand:
  • Ace: 1 point
  • Numerical cards (2-7): Face value
  • Jack, Queen, King: 10 points
• The first player to reach a predetermined point threshold (e.g., 100 points) wins the game.

Adaptation for 2 Players:

• In this adaptation, players take turns drawing and discarding cards to form sets and runs.
• The game is played with a smaller deck and slight modifications to the standard rules to accommodate two players.
