Tablic (2 player card game)

“Tablic” is a popular card game originating from Eastern Europe, typically played by two to four players. However, I’ll explain how to adapt it for two players:

Setup:

1. Use a standard 52-card deck. Remove all cards below 7 in each suit, leaving 32 cards.
2. Shuffle the deck and deal 6 cards to each player. Place the remaining deck face-down on the table.

Objective: The objective of Tablic is to score points by capturing cards from the table.

Gameplay:

1. Player 1 starts the game. They can capture cards from the table by playing a card from their hand that matches the value of one or more cards on the table. For example, if there’s a 5 on the table, Player 1 can play a 5 from their hand to capture it.
2. If Player 1 cannot make any captures, they must play a card from their hand to the table.
3. After Player 1’s turn, it’s Player 2’s turn to do the same.
4. The game continues with players taking turns until all cards have been played.

Scoring:

• Players score points by capturing specific combinations of cards from the table. The scoring combinations are as follows:
  • Fifty-Two (Tablic): Capturing the ace (worth 11 points) and the two (worth 10 points) of the same suit.
  • Marriage (Brak): Capturing the king (4 points) and queen (3 points) of the same suit.
  • Ten (Desetka): Capturing the 10 of diamonds (2 points).
  • Ace (As): Capturing the ace of diamonds (1 point).
• Additionally, the player who captures the last card from the table scores 1 point.
• After all cards have been played, players count the points they earned from captured cards.

Adaptation for 2 Players:

• In the two-player version, players alternate turns playing cards and trying to capture cards from the table.
• Since there are only two players, you can adjust the number of cards dealt at the beginning of the game for a faster-paced game.
• To determine the winner, play multiple rounds and keep track of each player’s total score. The player with the highest score after a set number of rounds wins the game.
