In-Between (2 player card game)

Objective: The objective of “In-Between” is to correctly predict whether a randomly drawn card will fall between two other cards in rank.

Adaptation for 2 Players: “In-Between” is typically played with more than 2 players, but it can be adapted for 2 players. In the 2 player version, the game proceeds similarly to the original version, with some adjustments to accommodate the reduced player count.

Setup:

  1. Use a standard 52-card deck.
  2. Shuffle the deck thoroughly and deal a single card face-up to each player to determine who goes first. The player with the lower card value becomes Player 1.
  3. Shuffle the deck again and deal 5 cards face-down to each player to form their hand.

Scoring:

  • In “In-Between,” there are various scoring methods, but a common one for 2 players is to use chips or tokens.
  • Each player starts with a certain number of chips (e.g., 10 chips each).
  • Players wager a certain number of chips before each round, and the winner of the round takes chips from the loser based on the outcome.

Gameplay:

  1. Turns:
    • Player 1 begins the game.
    • Players take turns clockwise, with each player having a chance to be the dealer.
  2. Dealing:
    • The dealer draws a card from the deck and places it face-up in the center of the table.
  3. Predicting:
    • The non-dealer (Player 1) then predicts whether the next card drawn will fall between the two cards already on the table.
    • If Player 1 predicts “In-Between,” the dealer draws the next card from the deck.
    • If Player 1 predicts “Outside,” the dealer draws the next card, and it must be outside the range of the two cards already on the table.
  4. Outcome:
    • If the drawn card falls between the two cards on the table and Player 1 predicted “In-Between,” Player 1 wins the round and takes chips from the dealer equal to the wager.
    • If the drawn card is outside the range and Player 1 predicted “Outside,” Player 1 wins the round and takes chips from the dealer equal to the wager.
    • If Player 1’s prediction is incorrect, the dealer wins the round and takes chips from Player 1 equal to the wager.
  5. Next Round:
    • After each round, the dealer position rotates to the other player, and a new round begins with the dealer drawing a card and the other player predicting.
  6. Winning the Game:
    • The game continues until one player runs out of chips. The other player is declared the winner.

Differentiating Turns:

  • Player 1’s Turn: Player 1 starts the game and has the first opportunity to predict the outcome of the round.
  • Player 2’s Turn: After Player 1’s turn ends, it becomes Player 2’s turn to predict the outcome of the next round.

Summary: “In-Between” is an engaging 2 player card game where players take turns predicting whether a drawn card will fall between two other cards in rank. Adapted for 2 players, the game involves wagering chips and strategic decision-making to outsmart the opponent. This adaptation provides an enjoyable and competitive experience for 2 players, even though the original game is designed for more players.
